Hawkins' Mini Gasket (code MG): the sealing ring for the smallest Hawkins pressure cookers. As printed on the pack, it fits all 1.5 litre Hawkins cookers, and the 2 litre models coded SSC, CXT, ICL, IIH, MM and MMH. In Hawkins' parts lists these include the 2 litre Stainless Steel Contura, Contura Black XT and Miss Mary.
Replace it when steam leaks from the edge of the lid, the cooker takes much longer to whistle, or the ring has gone hard, cracked or loose.
Check before you order: the old ring is marked MG 1.5L-2L. The 2 litre Classic, Contura and Contura Black take the Baby Gasket instead, and the Futura 2 litre takes its own Futura gasket.
A gasket is a wear part with a service life. Once it hardens or flattens it stops sealing, and on a pressure cooker that means steam escaping around the rim instead of building pressure.
