Why this matters
A gas stove is the one appliance in the kitchen where a fault is also a safety question. Yellow or uneven flames mean incomplete combustion, usually from blocked burner ports or a wrong air-to-gas mix, and incomplete combustion produces carbon monoxide in a room people stand in for hours a day. My burner clicks but does not light. What is wrong?
Usually the ignition electrode is coated with spillage residue, or the burner ports next to it are blocked so the gas is not reaching the spark. Both are cleared during a standard service. Turn the stove off at the knob while it is clicking — it is releasing gas.
Why is my flame yellow instead of blue?
A yellow flame means incomplete combustion, most often from blocked burner ports or an air-intake setting that has drifted. It wastes gas, deposits soot on your vessels, and produces carbon monoxide, so it is worth fixing promptly rather than living with.
Do you repair built-in hobs as well as freestanding stoves?
