Preethi's gasket (sealing ring) for Preethi aluminium and hard anodised pressure cookers of 2 litre and 3 litre. The Preethi pack calls it a food grade rubber gasket, with 2L / 3L in its capacity box.
The gasket sits in the rim of the lid and seals it, so the cooker can build pressure. Replace it when steam leaks from the edge of the lid or the whistle takes much longer than before. A ring that has gone hard, cracked, stretched or loose also needs replacing.
Check before you order: this ring is only for the 2 and 3 litre aluminium and hard anodised cookers. The 5 litre aluminium cooker and the 3 litre pressure pan take a different gasket, and so do Preethi's stainless steel and triply cookers.
A gasket is a wear part with a service life. Once it hardens or flattens it stops sealing, and on a pressure cooker that means steam escaping around the rim instead of building pressure.
